Although Vercingetorix had fought a glorious war against the Romans, he realized that the cause was lost. In order to request easier terms for his men, he volunteered to surrender himself. After He had ridden three times around the camp, he surrendered his elaborate sword to Caesar. He was sent to Rome and after six years in prison, Vercingetorix was put to death when Caesar celebrated his triumph.
